Box to store the Jumbo playing cards

When we began the planning process for our Jumbo playing cards swap, I originally thought I might bind them into a book when our project concluded, but my partner was positive she wanted to store hers in a box, and she purchased a bare wooden box for this purpose. It wasn't hugely expensive but it was close to twenty pounds  and more than I wanted to spend...and  then I spotted a box from a recent delivery and I thought yep, that'll do it. I did a quick check and the cards fit in perfectly...and I can get two side by side so the quotes in one pile and alphas in the other. Of course it is an ugly little box that served a practical  purpose,  but with a little time and attention can be  useful and a thing of beauty.

For now I decided I would simply cover the plain box with some paper and I chose a few random sheets within the same neutral colour range.  I have no idea if any of this will be visible when the project ends and the box is completed but it does for now.

Delighted that it fits two of the jumbo cards side by side with a little room to spare so they are easy to get the cards in and out. It may be that this box will house the cards side by side (in which case I may fit a divider to stop them from sliding about and will keep the alphabet cards in one pile and the quote cards in another.) or it may house the bound book I make with the finished cards. Time will tell.

For the outside I chose textured paper with a slightly distressed effect. It still needs a closure but I am leaving that to the end too.

Its okay for now and is a good place to store the cards as they are made and swapped. At the end of this project we will have a set of cards comprising of a mixture of each others art and our own.

Although this is a long term project, it is also self limiting (limited by the number of cards in a pack).  I am enjoying the process and also looking forward to seeing the end result.

Until next time
